In 1890 Joseph Binks developed the first cold-water paint spraying machine to effortlessly apply paint to buildings without the use of standard brushes. His creation revolutionized the painting industry by considerably reducing the amount of time it took to paint buildings and within a few short years his invention helped rescue the 1896 World's Fair in Chicago. Just days before the event, nine of the ten buildings remained unpainted as painters struggled to keep up with the construction of exhibit buildings but the Binks paint sprayer saved the day. By 1920 Binks had introduced hand-held spray guns to their product line which were used to economize the agricultural and automotive manufacturing industries.
